Currently he is receiving occupational and physical therapy (some thru school and some thru our private insurance) several times each week, however we have some pretty high deductibles that continue to rise; his AFO’s (orthopedic inserts to stabilize walking) have to be changed yearly and are quite expensive not to mention the remaining costs associated with being a special needs child.
Recently, thru working with his cousin Belkis on therapy sessions using an iPad, she found that Devin was able to follow commands (such as where is the boy, etc) and was able to fairly quickly determine correctly what was being asked on the screen. He has gotten very adept at touch screen technology and we are hoping this will open his world of communication, which will improve his very challenging behavior and frustration over not being able to tell us what he wants.
